Your Eyes

“Life is only how you see it.” - Unknown

A group of men was divided in a room over an issue. In the middle of them was half a glass of water. One group argued that it was half full, and the other group argued that it was half empty. They had spent some time in debate with no resolution. Then the door swung open, and in walked a young boy. He walked between the men and straight to the table. He took the glass in his hand and drank it. He set the glass back down on the table, turned around, and walked out. The men followed him out of the room. The boy saw the glass as neither half full nor half empty but simply a glass of water.

Life is how you see it. It could be horrible. It could be great. It could just be. When Jesus was anointed in Bethany by Mary in John 12:1-8, we see a similar picture to this glass of water story. The disciples thought it was horrible that the fragrant oil was wasted; Mary thought it was great. Jesus saw it for what it was: His burial preparation.

We need to see life through God’s eyes. Part of being like Christ is seeing things as he sees them. We too often don’t. We don’t see sin, the world, souls, and life the same way He did. Therefore, we miss out on growth in Christ. We don't take action. In the worst-case scenario, we end up in sin. There is a reason we have to have our minds transformed (Romans 12:2). We have to see things as they are, for how we see them is how we respond to them and, in turn, how they mold our lives.

When we do change how we see things, a lot more action will be taken, and more reality will be seen. Then we see the world as God does. How do you see things?
