“For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.”
1 Corinthians 15:53
You will never know what you are made of until you swing for the fences. There is a theory that we reserve anywhere from 10-40% of our strength for an emergency. Training to muscle failure is to train within this 10-40% window. The reason for this is that it is in this area we gain the greatest levels of improvement. We don’t know what we are made of until we work in the 10-40% window. I know it is not easy. It is beyond the desire to quit both mentally and physically. There is a person there who needs you. We don’t know who that is until we give 110% 100% of the time. That extra 10% comes from that place of reserve.
When we begin to understand that our goals are much farther than here, we become more. We can’t just sit back and shoot for success here. We must strive for heaven. That pursuit puts us through trials and tribulations that are found nowhere else. The refining that our character receives is out of this world. The mental and emotional maturity that is developed is beyond what can be achieved in any other way. You see, the key is, you must pursue it.
“Don’t bunt. Aim out of the park. Aim for the company of immortals,” - David Ogilvy.

You may strike out a lot. It’s worth it. It may be challenging. In fact, that is where I see success fail most, in the uncomfortable. Most people don’t want to be uncomfortable in any way. Anything from sweating, strain, pain, sleeplessness, cold, etc., gets avoided in the physical pursuit. In the spiritual, it’s the same, sweating rejection, strain of biblical faith, pain of abstaining from sin and living in Christ, sleeplessness from prayer, coldness of others toward you, etc. All get avoided by the faithful. In such cases, we fail to see who we are made of in Christ. We are aiming for more and higher than the world. We are going to be uncomfortable often among those who are not. Just like an Olympic athlete among couch potatoes.
The achievement that comes from both the pursuit and reaching the goal is incomparable to anything found elsewhere. There is a group of immortals that lie waiting to enjoy eternity with you. They did it. You can too. Pursue immortality, the company is incredible. For encouragement, read Hebrews 11.
