It Takes A Team

I enjoy racing. High octane, high speed, burning rubber and the twisted metal from a crash from good, hard racing. The smells and sounds of the cars are exhilarating as they blaze around the track with one singular goal... Victory. In motorsports, winning races depends on seamless teamwork. Drivers, crew chiefs, pit crews, and engineers all working in harmony. The driver may cross the finish line first, claim the checkered flag and turn doughnuts in the infield, but without the coordinated efforts of the entire team, success is impossible. Tires are changed in seconds, fuel is precisely measured, and every decision is made swiftly and collectively. The input from what the driver feels in the car and what the spotter sees from high above the track combined with the data that the crew chief has at their fingertips is used to put together the best strategy for the desired result.

This unity reminds me of what the Bible says in 1 Corinthians 12:14, “For the body does not consist of one member but of many.” Just as the church is made stronger by the talents of its members, a racing team thrives when everyone does their job to the best of their ability. The pit crew’s dedication, the crew chief's wisdom, and the driver’s skill each reflect the idea that no one part is greater than the whole. Philippians 2:2 calls us to “be of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind.” In racing and in life, true victory comes from unity. Some of us work to bring souls in the door, others will then teach those souls the truth and still others encourage and keep them coming. These principles are rooted in faith and are essential for success in bringing souls to Christ. That is the greatest victory.
