Everything Has A Price

Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?” - Romans 6:16

We see ads all the time that say, "Save money," "It is free," or "50% off." They all sound good! The truth is, they are all lies. You can't save money unless you spend it on these ads. You're not saving money. It can't be free. There is a price you have to pay for it. There is always a catch. Most of the time, if it's "50% off," there is a reason, or they have already recouped their money, and this is extra. Don't be fooled. Those companies are making money, not losing it. They are making it off of you.

Everything costs something. It doesn't matter what it is. Even words, thoughts, and or actions cost something. They can cost time, people, jobs, relationships, and more. We work more to make more, and we spend time with our families. We spend more time with our families; we spend time at work. We spend time at the ball field, and we pay time spent on other things. There is always a cost or sacrifice to be made. That is why the phrase, “You make time for the things you care about,” can ring so true for everyone. Time is a currency just like any nation's note.

There is a deeper payment being made with every choice we make. That price is the influence, example, and teaching we do for others. Our kids learn. Our neighbors learn. Our friends learn. Our families learn. They all learn from us what, when, and where to pay the price to live the life we exemplify. They see and learn what matters most to us. They learn to make the same payment to get what we have. This means we pay more than just time, blood, sweat, and tears for the things we do. We pay a higher price for what we teach others as well. This payment can last for eternity for you and them.

What is the price of being a Christian? You. You are the price. In Christ, God paid your debt, your past due amount, through Christ. You pay your current accruing cost. If you are in Christ, you pay with your faithful servitude and continue to have your failures paid by Christ. If you are not, well, there will be a day when all your debts, past and present, will be taken out of you for all eternity. The questions you need to ask yourself are, "What is the price?" and "Will buying this offer more life than it demands in return?" You decide. As for me, I'll continue to be a bondservant of Christ.
