How Does Jesus Feel About Us?

“For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings. For both He who sanctifies and those who are being sanctified are all of one, for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren.” - Hebrews 2:10-11 NKJV

I think it is fair to say that in a functioning, healthy, loving family, those family members share an intimacy and appreciation for each other that they don’t have with the outside world. And that

relationship is strong. It doesn’t tolerate shame, either towards each other or from the outside in.

A healthy relationship with God and Jesus should not be any different. Meaning, it should not be any different in our relationship with Christ, and His with us. But we have to ask ourselves two questions:

1 - Am I in a relationship with Christ?

2 - Am I living in such a way that brings shame or glory to Him?

The answer to number 1 is fairly straightforward. Are you part of the church that Jesus built? Have you been added to that church through your baptism into Christ? If not, then it is hard to say that you have the kind of relationship being discussed. If yes, then ask yourself question 2 again.

Jesus said in Mark 8:38: “For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him the Son of Man also will be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”

That is not a situation we want to find ourselves in. Imagine on judgement day, being in front of the only being that has the authority to call you His, and knowing that you haven’t lived in a way that pleases Him!

Instead, we should be looking forward to that day! John tells us in 1 John 2:28: “And now, little children, abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming.” Wouldn’t we rather be confident on that day, rather than afraid of it? Shouldn’t we take comfort in the fact that we are part of the family of Jesus? Jesus Himself said in Matthew 12:49, to His disciples, “Here are My mother and My brothers! For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother.”

It is hard then to say we are pleasing to Jesus if we are not doing the will of God. Let’s think about these things this week in how we talk, how we act, and whether or not we are doing the things which God has asked and commanded us to do.
