Your Eyes

There was a group of men in a room divided over an issue. In the middle of them was half a glass of water. One group argued it was half full, and the other argued it was half empty. They had spent some time debating with no resolution. Then the door swung open, and a young boy walked in. He walked between the men and straight to the table. He took the glass in his hand and drank it. He set the glass back down on the table, turned around, and walked out. The men followed him out of the room. Life is how you see it.

It could be horrible. It could be great. It could just be. When Jesus was anointed in Bethany by Mary in John 12:1-8, it gives us a similar picture to this glass-of-water story. The disciples thought it was horrible that Mary wasted the fragrant oil; Mary thought it was great. Jesus saw it for what it was—His burial preparation. Jesus was as right as that young boy. He saw it for what it was. We need to see life through God’s eyes.

When we do, our perspective will change. When our perspective changes, our actions follow suit. Once our actions shift, our lives become different. How you see things and perceive the information dictates your life. What does the world look like to you? What does the Gospel, Christ, Christianity, and God’s Word look like to you? You will take more action as more reality is seen. The only way to see everything the way God does is to read His Word.
