Heaven

How often do you think about heaven? Do you wonder what it will be like? We know so little about it, relative to other topics that are discussed in scripture. The Bible is filled with information about salvation, grace, mercy, love, God the Father, Jesus, even the Holy Spirit.

While there are several mentions of heaven in scripture, we typically come away with more questions than we have answers.

One of the most descriptive places that we reference in the Bible is from the book of Revelation. It is a challenging book to interpret, overall. It is full of metaphors and visions. Sometimes it is difficult to understand. But some of our most treasured thoughts of heaven come from this book.

Are they meant to be taken literally? I do not know. Are they a 100% accurate description of what heaven will be like? I do not know. John was writing about things that he had no frame of reference for. Perhaps the reality of heaven is too wonderful for him to be able to accurately describe. But I encourage you to read chapter 21:1-4, and 22:1-5.

Paul saw it firsthand as well. He talks about this in 2 Corinthians 12 that he was caught up and heard inexpressible things, things that no one is permitted to tell. Whatever he saw, it isn’t for us to know, yet.

One of the most sung about topics is heaven. We long for it. The melodies of these songs are beautiful, but do you pay attention to the words themselves? I wanted to give you some of my favorite lines.

Above the Bright Blue

This land of sweet rest awaits us, Someday it will break on our view, 'Tis promised by Christ the Redeemer, To His followers faithful and true.

Beyond This Land of Parting

Far beyond the sighing, moaning, and weeping, lies the summer land of bliss. Land beyond, where is no night. God is its light.

Heaven Holds All to Me

Why should I long for the world with its sorrows, when in the home o’er the sea, millions are singing the wonderful story. Heaven holds all to me.

How Beautiful Heaven Must Be

In heaven no drooping nor pining, no wishing for elsewhere to be. God’s light is forever there shining, how beautiful Heaven must be.

Home of the Soul

There we shall rest, never to roam; free from all care, happy and bright, Jesus is there, He is the light!

I Have Heard of a Land

All our sorrow will end, and our voices will blend, with the loved ones who’ve gone on before.

In Heaven They’re Singing

We read of its beauty, but somehow we know, its glory has never been told.

In the Land of Fadeless Day

There they need no sunshine bright, for the Lamb is all the light, and there is no night there.

Paradise Valley

We’ll be free from all pain and all strife; How I long for the paradise valley, where the beauty of heaven I’ll see.

The Sands of Time

The bride eyes not her garment but her dead bridegroom’s face. I will not gaze at glory but on my King of grace. Not at the crown He giveth but on His pierced hand. The Lamb is all the glory.

There’s a Holy and Beautiful City

No heartaches are known in that city. No tears ever moisten the eye.

When We All Get to Heaven

Just one glimpse of Him in glory will the toils of life repay.
