Take Time & Let It Sink In

As the fall weather sets in and the mornings become brisk, my mind turns toward hunting season. One of my favorite parts of this time of year is sitting quietly in the woods, watching nature wake up as the sun rises over the next ridge. In those moments, surrounded by the beauty and stillness of creation, I am reminded of just how powerful and awesome our God truly is.

Job 37:14 says, “Stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God.” Psalm 8:3 reads, “When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained.”

David also took time to consider God's creation, and we would do well to follow his example. In our busy lives, it is easy to get caught up in our responsibilities and forget to stop and appreciate the One who made it all.

Perhaps it’s enjoying a cup of coffee on the back porch while listening to the birds chirp. Maybe it’s sitting in a deer stand, wondering whether that rustle in the leaves is a deer or just a squirrel. Or perhaps it’s sitting on the riverbank watching the current pass by or relaxing in a boat as the waves gently rock you. Each of these moments offers an opportunity to slow down and appreciate God’s creation. From the smallest details to the grandest displays of His power, we are surrounded by evidence of His mighty hand. Whatever setting you enjoy most, take the time to pause and consider the wondrous works of God.

The same God who set the stars in the heavens and commands the storms is mindful of each one of us. This week, make time to stand still, look around, and take in the power, beauty, and majesty of our Creator.
