Responsibility

“Responsibility.” What a nasty word! Who likes responsibility? Yuck! That means I must do things. I must take care of things! No way, Jose! You do that. I’ll just sit over here and play. Someone will take care of all that other stuff.”

I haven’t heard anyone talk like that either. We act like it, though. We sit back on our laurels and think others can take care of the rest. Or we just don’t think it’s our job. Yet, we want to be great and do great things. “The price of greatness is responsibility,” said Winston Churchill. It will take responsibility for you to get to your best, and it will take responsibility to keep you there.

In Christ, being a Christian is your job. It is our responsibility to do good works, keep His word, and live like Christ. We will be held accountable for what we do (Revelation 22:12). You have to take action and live out His word (James 2:17). It is there, we grow and achieve the most. I can’t do it for you nor you for me. We have to decide if we want to be who God created us in Christ to be. Then we need to take responsibility for ourselves to become that person.

That attitude can never stop if we want to make God proud. When you get to your best, it also becomes your responsibility to exemplify greatness to others. Although it sounds like a daunting life to live, the truth is, that it’s the richest, purest, and most unrestrained life you can achieve. How? Because the only way we accomplish true greatness is by taking enough personal responsibility for our souls to trust and obey God. Then we carry the weight of that continued responsibility to stay great in Christ and shine as a light to the world around us. In turn, we fill the world with the Light of Christ and transform it forever more.

If we don’t take responsibility, then we cannot be the light. Listen, no one is responsible for your actions and life but you! God makes that clear in Revelation 20:11-15. He will be looking at you and asking you about what you did, not anyone else. Will you be bold enough to take personal responsibility for your soul and live in Christ?
